Do you believe in karma?
I do believe in karma yes. I lived with the code of “do onto others as you would do for yourself”. I tell people “have the day you deserve” depending on what you’re putting out there, may that day be the reflection of that.
With that being said, Mr very own personal karmic story:
My brother and I were at a gas station filling up before our journey home. There was a lady at the opposite pump who had gotten into her vehicle with her wallet still on the roof of her car. I was inside paying for my gas and my brother had said “I tried to wave down the lady who left her wallet on the car because she started to drive away but, she gave me the dirtiest look like I was trying to hit on her or something so I said fuck her!” Fair, someone was trying to show kindness by telling you your whole life is pretty much on the roof of that car but, okay! As we started on our voyage, we were driving on the on ramp to the highway and what do we see on the floor? The wallet. So I hopped out of the car quickly and picked it up. There was $300 dollars cash in there, license, credit cards all of that stuff. Now I’m not stupid, we weren’t going to tap those cards but, we were going to collect a finders fee for her rudeness. My brother and I split the $300. I did the courtesy of mailing the wallet back with everything else inside. If I recall I did leave a note along the lines of be kinder, the universe maybe trying to give you signs and angels walk amongst you (something like that)
Fast forward to two weeks later, I’m preparing to go to work, making sure I have everything in my bag. Lunch, wallet, headphones (at least I thought) and whatever other essentials I required. I made it to work and went to pull out my headphones. These headphone were lavender Dre beats so, very hard to miss. They weren’t in my purse. I went to my car and stripped the car, they weren’t there either. I got home and tore apart my house, still couldn’t find them. Then it dawned on me, these were worth about $250. The scales had to balance. I feel had I not taken the cash from that wallet this would have never have happened. I never found those headphones, to this day it sometimes itches my brain because I’m a very routine person and put things in the same place all the time so I never lose them. I don’t ever lose things, I may misplace them. These have never reemerged.
I tell this story as a confession and a lesson, I’m an open book. I’ve grown. It wasn’t my proudest moment but it served as an eye opener how quick karma can come back: What if that $300 was extremely important to that woman? If that’s all she had left? What if she was a single mum and that was to get her baby groceries? Im naturally a giver but, I decided to take in haste so this was the outcome? If I could I’d give that lady $600 for my foolishness. I’m not a thief (in patois we say TEEF) in no way shape or form it was just grimy kind of day.
This is the story I typically share when the conversation of karma comes up. It change my whole outlook on remembering that people may rank higher in the spiritual realm than the physical. It did shape me. I was young and dumb.
Karma is real.
